Mobile Printing using Computer Vision

Company Background

PrintDreams is a Sweden-based company specialized in developing handheld printers. It is a Gartner Cool Technology Vendor that developed the prototype of the world’s smallest mobile printer, PrintBrush™. It is the world’s first pocket-size inkjet printer with a built-in digital camera. The printer uses PrintDreams’ RMPTTM (Random Moment Printing Technology) that can print in color directly onto virtually any surface.

The Transformative Solution

PrintDreams approached Tech Vedika to build a complete image pre-processing and sensor positioning software that could be used in the mobile printing device to produce a segmented panorama or high-resolution image printing. Tech Vedika developed a solution using computer vision and machine learning that performs the following basic operations from the images captured by the microscopic camera and optical sensors:

Product Features

  • Very high accurate 2D position and orientation estimation
  • Halftone concepts based image stitching algorithm
  • Text and graphics information separation in the input image so
  • that text can be treated separately while printing
  • High accurate calibration to get the geometry of the sensors
The Results

Tech Vedika developed an advanced image processing and printing
technology which provides the following benefits:

Innovation

  • Patentable image pre-processing of the microscope images
  • Patentable high accurate calibration of sensor positions
  • Very fast accurate navigation algorithm using multiple sensors
